AI Told Me: It’s Not Intelligent.

Here’s what I asked ChatGPT:

“Explain why AI is not really intelligence.”

And here’s what ChatGPT told me:

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a subfield of computer science and engineering that aims to create systems that can perform tasks that would normally require human intelligence, such as recognizing images, understanding natural language, playing games, and more. However, despite the impressive advances in AI, it is still not the same as human intelligence.

One reason is that AI systems are not capable of true understanding or consciousness. They are simply following a set of rules and algorithms that have been programmed into them. They lack the ability to experience emotions, intuition, self-awareness, and creativity, which are all hallmarks of human intelligence.

Another reason is that AI systems are limited by their training data and algorithms. They are only as good as the data they have been trained on and the algorithms that have been designed for them. This can lead to biases and inaccuracies in their decisions and actions.

Finally, AI systems are also limited by their lack of context. They do not have a sense of the broader world and their place in it, and they cannot fully understand the nuances and complexities of human society and culture.

In conclusion, while AI has made remarkable progress in replicating some aspects of human intelligence, it is still far from being truly intelligent in the same sense as a human being. It is important to recognize its limitations and use it as a tool to augment human capabilities, rather than trying to replace them entirely.

In other words, AI tells me we can drop the “I” because it is not conscious and it doesn’t have human context.

Does that mean it’s just “A” for Artificial?

Yes, it’s artificial, not human. It’s unreal. Fake yet familiar. A humanlike poseur.

Turns out that AI is not real intelligence, as my favorite AI has now informed me.

Instead, AI is simply an extension and evolution of the original purpose of the first computer: it is a TOOL for performing detailed, complex, repetitive tasks, even FASTER than before.

AI can play games too, like any computer… (This digital art created with Open.AI’s DALL-E 2)

So, let’s not freak out with delusions and fears of “Terminator Machines” taking over! AI is just a really, really, really fast computer….

And of course, this means that — just like with any computer — most people will not fully understand AI, or use it properly.

[sigh of resignation and dread…]

Interesting, no?
